A Century of Tradition Augmented by a New Generation

George W. Vanderbilt founded Biltmore Farms in 1897 in Asheville, North Carolina; he is best-known for building the Biltmore Estate, including the magnificent residence that attracts 1,000,000 visitors to Asheville annually from all over the United States and beyond.

In establishing Biltmore Farms, Vanderbilt complemented his home with a viable and working dairy that would eventually service markets in Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia and the Carolinas. With Fredrick Law Olmstead, the noted landscape architect who designed much of Central Park, Vanderbilt also established Biltmore Forest and Biltmore Village, two Asheville communities that thrive to this day.

In 1985, Biltmore Farms sold its dairy operations to focus on land management and development with the goal of carrying on the tradition of building sustainable, affordable, and quality-conscious communities. The most recent manifestation of this is Biltmore Park, a 750-acre mixed-use smart growth community adjacent to Exit 6 off Interstate 26 south of Downtown Asheville and Biltmore Lake, a 1,300 acre master planned development located in west Asheville between I-40 and I-26 off highway 19/23. Today, Biltmore Farms Commercial complements service to its clients with a commitment to the Vanderbilt legacy of giving back to the community.
